New rack. From top to bottom the components are now:

*Pro-Ject RPM4 LP player with Audio-Technica AT150MLX cartridge
*Graham Slee Era Gold Reflex sitting next to Pioneer CT-S740S cassette deck
*Sony CDP-XB930 CD player
*Technics SA-DX940 amplifier

...all sitting on a Creaktiv Trend HiFi rack with spikes and sand-filled tubes. The amplifier is now at the bottom shelf of the rack. Ground wire is connected between LP player and phono stage. No more hum & buzz.

1] The TV emits its framing signal which is amplitude modulated and is easily detected in a high gain system, which vinyl by necessity is, via the arm and cartridge wiring causing the "hum" which you noticed goes away with the TV off.

2] The amplifier containing its big power transformer is directly under the turntable - therefore the arm and cartridge wiring is well within its magnetic field. The amplifier which has the biggest transformer by far, should be at the bottom of the rack. Ideally, an analogue player should be beneath the turntable, as digital clock signals contained in digital players can also interfere.

3] Even with the amp on the bottom shelf, some hum can be picked up through mechanical vibration coupling from its transformer coupled through the racks structure. Ideally, the turntable should be placed on a separate support.

4] If the rack is all metal, the 50 or 60Hz "hum" of the transformer can be induced into it, and that in turn can induce "hum" into the cartridge or other inductive elements. A metal rack is also a good antenna which is bad news for a sensitive (vinyl) front end.

5] The audio system power distribution should be from a single "multi-block" having sufficient number of ways, plugged into a "ring-main" (or even better a dedicated radial feed) wall socket having no other high current device plugged into it. The phono stage supply should be plugged into the first socket from the lead entry, and the most power hungry item (the amp maybe), should be plugged into the last socket from the lead entry.

These are the main things I'd tackle prior to any subtle tweaks. You should notice a difference.

Hi AK, in addition to point 5 of Graham's answer, I want to say that it's a very remarkable improvement in soundquality, if you connect everything to 1 multipowerblock.

AFAIK it has to do with eliminating small differences in voltagepotentials for one reason.

I used a standard-block initially and after that a "Supra"(brand)block with great results.

I see in your pictures that you can reverse the phase and neutral powerconnections.

Search for the best sounding phase/neutral connection on all your audioequipment, which to me means: warmer , more depth, less upfront etc. Han
