I suffer from severe upgrade-itus , I attempt to keep this in check by only buying something new when I've manage to raise a few pounds on Ebay.

December I bought a SE2 now I'm thinking about adding the PSU1 power supply.

The incoming cartridge is a Goldring G1042 on a project 9cc arm feeding through some ATLAS cable.

As a source first obsessed individual, this is done via a Pioneer A400 amp driving a pair of standmount B&W dm602 s3 speakers.

At the moment the only real issue I have with the sound is the faintness of the Bass unless I give the speakers a bit of Welly. Not too load just a little more than I like.

FYI the Bass was fine when I used my old Grado Prestige Black through a P******t phono-amp but it was the Mid Range that lacked.

Opinions welcome, would the PSU1 give me back the Bass the G1042 stole ?

Personally, I don't think so - but I am happy to be corrected on this.
Have you checked the cartridge set up, adjusted the VTA VTF, as these can both have an impact on the bass.

Thanks Kevin

I think I need to buy the proper tool then, currently I've been using a printed card and line of sight.

Regards

The VTF needs to be set accurately so scales of some sort will be required.

The VTA can be set by eye. If you lack bass, lower the tone arm so that it becomes more tail down on the tone arm.

The G1042 is quite sensitive to set up.

Hi Folks after checking the VTF and the VTA and my own sanity I discovered that the lack of bass wasn't anything to do with the cartridge. So what was it ? Well, it was my fault first and foremost in that on getting my GS SE2 I hadn't read the bit about it being designed to be left permanently on , basically I'd been switching it on and off with all the other items. Now I leave the phono amp on and the BASS IS BACK with a vengeance.

Good result.
Odd how certain sections of the internet vehemently deny such a thing.

That's because designing audio circuitry to be left on full-time is somewhere in the region of a thousand times harder than designing something that's only going to be on a few hours occasionally, which usually takes on a much different sound after around 24 to 100 hours, and then the cat would be out of the bag!
