Ah Second Edition, that takes me back to the last time I listened to it and the Swan Lake bit. Massive diversity of music in the late seventies, punk was like a reset of the record companies - acts got signed and produced albums that disappeared or ended up in Dil's record collection and mine. Art house stuff, punky, electronic, and so much more.
An example. My copy of the first Specials LP is currently on loan to a trusted colleague. It is a corker! |

Indeed Jon! Err no-one else bought them is why haha!! I just picked up pretty much every LP, 7" and 12" that bore any resemblance to the words independent/new wavy/obscure/who da hell?/everyone else hates. Add a dash of every single John Peel Festive 50 track thru to 1985. And you just may get a grip on my bonkers collection.
I lucked out in the 90s when CD destroyed our used record shops. I pretty much bought 70% of these records for pennies each in liquidated stock. Sigh for the brave beautiful owners that had to unload their shop stock like this. Edited by dillon - 18 Dec 2017 at 5:37pm |

Sorry I missed this DIl. When you swept up the vinyl in the nineties I went over the dark side buying CD's but keeping my record collection. I now see the mid to late 1990's as the lost years... although I did buy some good music to be fair.

2 Tone, some absolutely fantastic music there. If anybody fancies a bit of new punk check out a Bristol band call Idles. Their album Brutalism is superb, the lyrics sublime a social commentary of our modern times. I saw them last year at the Hare & Hounds in Kings Heath Birmingham, fast, loud and aggressive. Absolutely loved it. A band with something to actually say.

Love new wave, post punk, art punk, whatever you want to call this type of music. In the U.S. everyone thinks new wave = synthpop only, not what's being talked about here. Nothing wrong with synthpop IMHO, but there's more to it than that.
Listening to the Nightingales - Hysterics LP right now.
