I have just become the proud owner of a Voyager Unit and I wanted to pass some comments and then ask some questions about its use in the home as a pre-amplifier for a Fatman 202 Valve Amplifier, which may not be everyone's cup of tea but which I love dearly.....

I bought the Voyager two weeks ago on the off chance really, as I was looking into buying a SACD player, found myself in a high end audio forum, saw some commentary about just how good the Voyager was, Googled it and found myself a bargain and bought it in about 30 minutes!!

This included a cable, which is a Pailiccs gold terminal LOD ( Double helix cables Nucleotide Cryo-treated OCC Copper (24AWG) (Multi-Strand), Quad-Braided and complete with gold terminated iPod/iPhone attachment. I use it between my IPod Classic (80G) & Ultimate Ears Super Five Pro in-ear headphones together with a small cable to increase the impedance.

I didn't know what to expect but I have been amazed at the extra warmth & depth that I now have together with the increased separation & clarity that the Voyager brings. Logically, you know all of that but it has surprised me at just what a difference it has made. It really is incredible. I tend to use it without the Contour switch-on. So thank you. It really is a great product.

My question is what is the value that the Voyager could bring within our house for use with the Fatman 202 Valve Amplifier.

1. Is the Voyager only designed as a headphone amp or can it also be used as a pre-amplifier into an Amplifier by taking the dual phone output into the input of the Voyager. Am I unnecessarily overcomplicating matters or will the Voyager 'add value' to the sound in the process?

More specifically

2. Will it add to the sound by putting it between the aforementioned IPod & the Fatman and also separately between the SACD player phono outputs & the Fatman? I run some Mission 770 speakers.

I have tried it between the IPod & the Fatman and it does seem to add the depth, warmth & greater clarity, but I worry if the bass has become a bit boomy, but that might be because the volume input from the Voyager was up to high. Between the Sony SACD player it does seem to add something as well.

I realise it's my ears that will ultimately decide whether I continue with the set up including the Voyager or not, but I would appreciate anyone's comments.

Many thanks

Nigel
