Thanks for all the advice, certainly very helpful on how to proceed.
The plan is to obtain either the AKG K240 MKII semi open that Ash said some forum users liked or the Yamaha HPH MT5 suggested by fluddite. This will quickly provide headphones to try out Graham’s headphone amplifiers. Once all is up and running and I am more used to listening through headphones I would like to follow your suggestion Ash and try ebay and see if I can find one of your recommendations, should be rewarding when all works out and no doubt frustrating when it doesn’t. Watch this space for more questions. Assuming it works ok with my amp I will definitely be buying one of Graham’s headphone amplifiers, just need to find out how to arrange a loan to decide between the Nova and Solo SRGII and make sure it does work with my Naim Nait 5 amplifier. |

Wow, there are some HD250II on ebay.de at the moment. Not cheap though and no more official earpad spares available from Sennheiser. Like with the HD560 discontinued pads, it kills off the headphone unless you resort to DIY pad making or refoaming or putting the old attachment rings in suitably sized aftermarket earpads.
K240 mkII might be a safer bet. Certainly cheaper with less risks attached. Graham likes them and he needs transparent headphones to do his job.
