Hi
I'm a new boy. I'm here because i want to upgrade my system, a GS phono stage may be what I need, I wanted to hear what others think, based on their experiences. I'm slowly upgrading my kit, bit by bit. I've a Pink Triangle LPT, bought new over 20 years ago. That's had a service and seems to be running fine. I've had the arm (RB300) fully modded by Origin Live. I've swapped the old Nagaoka / Stilton TS11 cartridge for a Nagaoka MP-200. Overall, I'm happy with the sound. But I could I be getting more out of this set up? My amp is an Arcam FMJ A19. I've been hopping between using my old phono stage (a Moth series 30 bought when I was using a Pioneer A400) and the phono input on the Arcam. If I upgrade the phono stage a) what sort of improvements (a relative term, I know) can I expect b) how much do I need to spend before I hear appreciable improvements on what I already have c) how much is it worth spending considering the system I (currently) have? If it helps, the music I play is a little gentler than in the past, The Stooges and Led Zep still get the occasional blast but most of the time I'm listening to jazz, blues, classical, folk, that kinda thang. |

Hi and welcome. Starting with your PT you have a good staring point and the front end so sure upgrading your phone stage to something better will be quite noticeable. I have no experience of the Moth as to what is its nearest equivalent in Grahams range but have owned the three top models which give increasing benefits.
I am sure you will find something which is a good upgrade at an even better price. |

Welcome Peter,
I'm sure that any GSP phono stage will bring an improvement. The best way to find out is to take advantage of the Loan scheme, a week or so to listen in your own system at home. Have a look through the range, I would imagine that you would be in the Era Gold, Reflex M range to suit your existing cartridge, or thinking to the future, perhaps the Accession. To arrange a loan contact Jon, AKA Fatmangolf. Happy Listening Ian |

Just listen, if it sounds good to you, enjoy it.

Thanks, guys. I'm going to read up on the different phono stages to get a feel for which one would suit me best.
