I’m struggling to get answers so I’ve posted this in other places also.

Does anyone have experience of the Manticore Mantra, or other suspended turntables, who might be able to help me?  I thought there was a way of posting links to display photos, but I’ve not got it right this time.

My main concern is that the armboard doesn’t appear to be level when the platter is.  What could be done to address this?

Also:

1) My attempts to adjust the suspension have failed. Turning the bolts under the platter appears to have no effect whatsover, and
2) Mantra documentation from way back when says, "The entire suspension system has been set for the required tonearm and will have been checked again by your dealer prior to delivery”.  What does this mean?  I bought the Mantra second hand and armless and since then I’ve used it with three tonearms; Acos Lustre GST-1. Rega RB301 and now Rega RB1000.  What should be done to ensure the suspension setup is correct for the arm in use?

Hi Ifor,
Looks like you need to tighten the bolt nearest the arm. I can't see the detail of the head of the bolt, but as the lower nut is a locknut you'll need to firmly hold the top of the bolt with a spanner or allen key whilst turning the locknut. From what I can see the armboard is retained in the floating sub chassis by 3 screws and might need to be levelled to match the sub chassis if it doesn't show level when the platter and sub chassis are level.

Good Luck
Ian

Thanks Ian. I’m beginning to get the idea of what I need to do.  Do you have any idea what a perfect bounce is?

The perfect bounce - now there's food for thought. However, back to Turntables. I have never owned a bouncy turntable such as an LP12 or similar. As the only adjustment apparent on the Manticore is the compression of the springs to bring the sub chassis level, I think you're stuck with whatever bounce the springs give when adjusted for the correct level. I suppose the ideal bounce may be that the sub chassis bounce is predominantly vertical with the platter remaining horizontal as it moves up and down rather than wobbling side to side.
I'm sure others will understand the perfect bounce, if the have a suspended chassis turntable.
Ian

Straight up and down with no drift from side to side.
