Today i connected my Panasonic DMP-UB900 Player to the Majestic digital inputs both coaxial and sp-dif but when i play a disc all i get is a curious clicking sound. Strangely enough when using the HDMI input through an LG 38" ultra wide and then connect to headphone out which is connected to a analogue to digital converter and then connected to the digital in on the Majestic the sound is replayed ok. Does anyone have any suggestions. Have tried all the different sound settings in the Panasonic but alas no joy. Also have a short MOV file of the sound but to be honest do not know how to upload the file.

Try setting the player output over SPDIF to PCM.

If it's outputting other data than music then the simple Majestic receiver (Wolfson WM8804) cannot process it, so it will pass glitches instead. Somewhere in the chain of TV to A-D converter there is something intercepting what seems to be non-audio digits.

Thanks for your response guys. Will just keep using the HDMI for sound and vision and route via converter, No big deal really just more cabling.

Keep the signal in the digital domain, sending it via the headphone amp in the TV and ADC rather defeats the object of best sound quality. What you will hear is the TV headphone amp quality, not generally renowned for their quality.
For your player the HDMI output should be set to "Audio Off" and Digital Audio output set to PCM. It's worth perservering to get the full benefit of the Majestic. |

Just listen, if it sounds good to you, enjoy it.

Does your TV have an optical out?
If it does, go into the setup menu for your TV, set the TV to output linear PCM via the optical, and hook that up to the Majestic. |

Also remember to activate the digital mute switch before switching inputs so you don't send a chirp through to the speakers/headphones. Once set, click the mute back off.
