I have bought new interconnects between my Communicator and my amp. To burn them in, do I need to have a signal pass through them or can I simply leave the phono amp and main amp switched on?

Welcome Ken, your interconnects will need a signal passing through them to burn in. Some like to have a continuous signal to speed things up, but moderate use should see a change over a few weeks. At least with normal listening you will appreciate the difference that burn in brings about.
Happy Listening.
Just listen, if it sounds good to you, enjoy it.

My interconnects between my Revelation M & Elevator are extremely short around 15-20cm and are far too short to connect to another device and given I didn't wish to waste a perfectly good diamond looked for a solution.

I run my TV through my amp so few a few pounds bought an 'H' connector which allowed two phono cables to be joined together then run through my TV.

This ran my cables in pretty quickly whilst leaving my TV & amp on.

One other interesting point (I was burning in two cables here) that with the two high quality cables plugged in to the amp end and joined to my budget cables to the TV the sound was surprisingly much improved than the budget cables alone. Why I cannot say unless the improved screening etc dialled out some of the RFI at the end of the signal chain?

Anyway if you do have a TV to hand this is a quick and cheap way of burning the cables in.

Good point. How does it sound with the cheaper cables unplugged?
