It depends how close the speakers are to you, the size of the baffle, the T/S parameters of the driver and the SPLs you want. Obviously, without a large box, efficiency in the low frequencies drops off like a stone so you rely on proximity and sensible volume levels.

Something like a ~£110 pair of CHN-110 in a large cardboard desktop open baffle should have very respectable bass capabilities. I am tempted to try them.

If you succumb to temptation Ash, I'll be interested to hear how you get on.

I ordered some Mark Audio Sota Tozzi Two speakers today. I will let you know how I get on with those. I am hoping for them to replace my uber-expensive MySphere 3.1 headphone. If I can legitimately replace the headphone with a speaker equally precise, I can sell the headphone for a load of cash that can be invested in more DIY speakers.

MySphere 3.1 vs Tozzi Two comparisons to come. Once I have a speaker response I can trust, shall drop headphones like a lead weight. Well-engineered speaker drivers with Graham's Proprius are fantastically capable at a price point that is not absolutely ridiculous.

The silver Tozzi Two speakers arrived today. Very high build quality; look forward to testing them over the next few days.
