Difficult, isn't it?[/QUOTE]

It is, especially when you can't go anywhere to audition the DACs you are looking at side by side. It's just a crying shame that the "tipsy can't be powered by the mains, otherwise I'd wait to buy it.

Once the ITSY USB DAC is launched I'm straight onto two other projects. I'd like to do one at a time but the big DAC and the line stage are both things you're telling me I need to do for you soon.

The big DAC will be PSU1 powered... mains powered.

Its USB input will use the same circuit as the ITSY because it's a great USB DAC stage, but all it will do is send its SPDIF output to the Wolfson receiver chip.

All circuits will run off mains derived power from the PSU1. The PSU1 will be the upgraded issue because it has resettable transformer winding fuses and so will do more power (It has been upgraded for the big DAC and for the line stage).

The ITSY uses "half" of the big DAC's analogue output stage. The big DAC will feature two of these analogue output stages per channel for the purpose of providing a balanced output, utilising the Wolfson DAC chip's balanced output stage, but with a true analogue volume control.

All I need to know to be making a start is how many optical and coax inputs you all want?

Two of each making a total of four (some out there have two of each, but they are either-or, making a total of two), would work for me.

OK, I thought that would be the answer - thanks for confirming.

I'm assuming line out will be on RCA phonos (which is fine for me). But how about XLRs for for the "real audiophile" crowd? Having these would show that the big DAC has high aspirations - and distinguish it from some of the competition. But I can see the problems of trying to shoe-horn these on to the back plate (it will be in a Reflex-sized case presumably?). You *could* fit XLRs and supply an XLR>RCA adaptor, much like Itsy (or is it ITSY) will have a jack>phono adaptor . . .  (Or offer XLRs as as option to RCAs).

I think we need a new larger metal case for the DAC to take both balanced XLR outs as well as RCA line outs plus all the other connectors.

As regards ITSY, it can be Itsy or itsy or I suppose we could dare to say iTsy...

Why do I keep wanting to pronounce it as Tipsy? Embarrassed  If ITSY was an acronym, what would it stand for . . .? Confused
