This question is mostly for Graham. I wondered if you have ever given any thought to what you would do if you were to design an amp for very senstive speakers? I love my 300B SET's with my Klipsch LaScalas, but I'm curious about what you might do with this set of requirements? -  Steve C.

A long time in answering but there's a reason for that. Yes, I have given it quite some thought and I'm in the middle of producing such an amp - click here if you haven't already.

At 26 watts (tested on prototype) it will be considerably lower on distortion to match the LaScalas low distortion running anything up to 25 watts.

10 watts corresponds to +10dB over the LaScala 105dB sensitivity giving 115dB - just 6dB below their maximum acoustic output. You loose 6dB per doubling of distance so for 2 metres (that's around 6 feet 6 inches) the output will be 109dB, 4 metres (that's 13 feet) 103dB and 8 metres (that's 26 feet) 97dB.

Add 3dB to the above for the other channel so at 8 metres you'd have 100dB!

At full output from this power amp you'd be just 2dB below the maximum acoustic output so a bigger amp would only serve to guard against clipping, but at 119dB 1 metre away that's going to sound mighty loud.

This amp isn't class A but otherwise the sound is engineered to be valve-like.
That none should be able to buy or sell without a smartphone and the knowledge in how to use apps
