I've been researching phono stages for a while now as an upgrade to the P******t Phono Box II I've been using for many years as it can't be described as much more than adequate. Last week I noticed it was sounding decidedly erratic in it's output, after some investigation I discovered that the PSU had decided that the 16v AC it was supposed to provide wasn't enough and it was supplying close to 24v AC instead. Whilst this may not have caused irreparable damage to the Phono Box, I took it as an omen to upgrade.

The Reflex M was on my shortlist and I was going to reach out to John to get one on the loaner program, but before I did I found a used one for sale complete with a PSU1-Enigma for the price of a new one with the basic PSU. Figured that if it wasn't to my liking I'd be able to resell it for the same so I hit the buy now button - suffice to say I won't be reselling it!

I've been listening to a bunch of varied records over the past couple of days, there's been a lot of Wow moments! I'm hearing things in a new light, I can pick out instruments that were lost in the murk before, there's now a assembly of coherent individuals between my speakers rather than the 'group' that used to be there. I have no idea if the music sounds how the creators intended it to but it sounds very right to me.
