Thought I would post this here in case anyone finds this of interest. What follows are graphs detailing my loading experiments with an AT150EA cartridge body with a VMN40ML stylus.

The 150EA body is very similar to the current VM700 series body, except the inductance is spec'd at 350mH (possibly slightly higher in reality) rather than the current 460mH. Total capacitance is ~180pf. I could probably knock out another ~30pf or so by switching to a different, shorter RCA cable but haven't done that yet and I'm not sure how much of a difference it would make.

I ran into some trouble with my graphing programs and getting accurate inverse RIAA correction, so I got some help making the graphs.

32K:

So far I think either 36K or 39K sounds the best with this cartridge, depending on one's taste's, in-room speaker response, etc.

Thanks for this good work. There's less variation in the HF response and harmonic distortion than I expected.

Increasing or decreasing the capacitance in large amounts might affect the HF response more.

Subjectively speaking, I didn't care for the sound at 47K. 36 or 39K sounds much better to me. Things like cymbals are less "in your face" when the cartridge is loaded down IMHO.

Thank you. Your listening observations reveal more than the measurements do.

In this case the measurements were mostly done out of general curiosity and to confirm what I thought I was hearing.
