I agree about the volume control and find 12 o'clock is quite loud on most of my headphones. Good point about records late at night. After 10pm I generally prefer listening on speakers with the volume lower.

Jon

Open mind and ears whilst owning GSP Genera, Accession M, Accession MC, Elevator EXP, Solo ULDE, Proprius amps, Cusat50 cables, Lautus digital cable, Spatia cables and links, and a Majestic DAC.

It's nice not to have to wear anything on the head or be attached to your equipment by a cable sometimes. Headphones are great but capable speakers are liberating.

With the Denon AH-D7000 (low impedance) and the ULDE, I usually play at these levels:

- 10-11 for modern "loud" CDs (player: OPPO BD105D, which has a high 2V output)
- 12-13 for older "quieter" CDs (same player)
- 14-15 for vinyl with high output MM (Ortofon 2M Bronze or AT 440MLa)
- 15-16 for vinyl with lower output MM (Grado Gold or Nagaoka MP500), especially with LPs that are mastered "quiet", and with really quiet ones I have sometimes gone to 17 too!

Yes, I like it loud! Tongue

I like it loud. But I do find a difference between CD & vinyl, If I'm playing a record & then move to CDs I'll turn the volume down. This is more to do with the sound of a CD (for wont of a better way of saying it) It's more clinical or cold. I did read about one manufacturer (they make turntables) that wouldn't make their first CD player until they could make it sound more like a vinyl record.
Reflex M, Solo (both with PSU-1) CuSat50, Lautus, Spatia & Spatia links cables. Ortofon Bronze.
