Hi, I own the Refex M with Elevator EXP for an Ortofon Quintet black cartridge and wanted to upgrade to the Accession.
My question is whether acoustically the Accession MC is the same as the MM plus Elevator EXP or does something change in the sonic aspect?
Thanks.

Hi Vincenzo, I think the Accession MC is better sounding so I recommend that. Keeping your Elevator to use with an Accession M would give more flexibility if you wanted future options.

Was there any comparative evidence on this?

Yes, I own an Elevator EXP, and Accession (M), and an Accession MC. I did the comparisons with the loan AccMC, using the PSU1 Beta now known as PSU1 Enigma, listening to a range of records I own from blues, rock, pop, jazz, classical.

To be fair my Elevator EXP is not a standard or stock model as I added a 4n7 capacitor to the input loading of each channel. Even so the AccMC was better IMO.

My respectful advice is to borrow an AccMC and an Acc M on the loan scheme and compare them in your own system. That is always the best way for you to decide which option you prefer, Vincenzo.

I borrowed the loan scheme Accession C a while ago to compare with the Reflex M/Elevator
and Accession M/Elevator & the lasting impression was of more 'vivid' images and greater detail
with the AccC than with the other combinations.
This was with the standard PSU1, as it was pre-Enigma.

Removing the AccC & going back was noticeable - adjusting back to the slightly less defined
sound took a little time, but the sound is nonetheless still very satisfying.

If it helps - my intention is to go for the AccC at some stage, having heard what it can do but
Jon's advice to borrow them is the best way to find out.

Hello, thank you for the advice, I was wondering if there was a way to trade or sell the Reflex M and the Elevator EXP in order to buy the Accession MC.

Good luck with sale of your Reflex M & Elevator on the forum Vicenzo.

There are places in England that will buy your hifi if you want to sell quickly - although you are based
in Italy & Brexit has added complications they are worth considering.
