I had the same when I moved my speakers more out into the room it made all the difference for the good. It just shows how room acoustics can make or break the sound out of your HiFi. I also moved my rack away from my speakers that also made a GOOD difference for the better

I use the recommended setting of RIAA for everything except if I happen to have some pre-1953 British or American recordings, but I don’t. I have of course flipped the switch many times to see the difference but RIAA always sounds best. The only switch I use frequently on the Accession MM is the stereo/mono switch.
I have learned that it’s best to always turn it back to stereo after listening to a mono record. Otherwise I come back on the next session and put on a stereo record and even though it can sound pretty good, I might get through quite a few tracks feeling unsatisfied. Then I remember - oh yeah! Put it on stereo! And the magic comes back. I never forget to put mono setting on for mono records.
