Hi,
Question for Graham or John really or anybody who’s in the know, is the Majestic’s usb input compatible with Linux’s UAC2 driver? Over recent months I’ve been using Roon on an old laptop and I’m thinking of buying a Roon Nucleus. The Nucleus can stream via its usb output so I thought about plugging it straight into the Majestic.

Can't see why it shouldn't as my Lenovo (Win10) is USB 3. The player will dictate what plays, and so long as it sends at no more than 24 bit / 48kHz it should still decode. VLC will pull in a suitable codec and downsample any res. FB2K will only send what the Maj can handle.

Ernie is there any waythe setup to try it with a basic/free streamer? It may work well and if it doesn't you have saved the license fee and/or a lot of hassle. It's not the same but when I tried to get my PC and Squeezebox Touch to feed my Majestic there wasn't a 'wow' moment with the music (compared to SPDIF) that made me want to persevere with solutions to the glitching. |

Interest conversation with regard to why the high end computer based streamer manufactures put usb only on their products. It all down to wanting to leave the sound card to specialist manufacturers.
Tried an RPi as Roon end point to the Majestic usb and spdif. Spdif wins but it doesn’t sound like the Cyr@@ Signature I had.

Hi Graham,
I can also tell you that your Lautus usb cable works, well has very good effect on sound quality. I dug out an old pair of Sennheiser 565 Ovations from the 90s. From earlier posts you may recall I’ve never paid much heed to headphones with the experience being disappointing. I have a Bitzie which I found on the Bay for a song and still never really found the magic of headphone listening. Turns out it ain’t what you’ve got it’s the way that you implement it. I bought a cheap usb cable, usb b to two usb a and powered the Bitzie off a power bank. Instant jump in SQ compared to powering from an iPhone via the Lautus. Decided to make a Roon endpoint from an old RPi. Powered the RPi from the power bank and used the cheapo usb as before one usb a in the power bank one in the output of the RPi and the usb b into the Bitzie. Starting to cook now and I’m being to understand the appeal of headphones. It was still a bit of a jumble on rock music but I started to get some imaging. Things were moving wider, instruments are separate. Then it dawned on me that I could get rid of cheapo cable and use the Lautus from the RPi to the Bitzie. All that muddle an jumble has disappeared. Instruments wider still with good separation. I didn’t actual believe a usb cable could make that much difference. First time I can actual say I’m enjoying headphones. Well done.
