Hello Forum Members!

New member currently living in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Yes, Amish country; plenty of horse-and-buggies and Plain folk...

I'm still relatively new to high-end audio, especially vinyl. My current turntable is a refurbished Dual 1229 running Shure V15 type III and Sure ED 95 plus a Shure 78 stylus for the ED 95 when the mood strikes. Everything is pretty much plug-and-play.

Just picked up two Thorens TD 126 mk II turntables which both sat unused for 35 years. One has a stock TP-16 mk II tonearm, the other a Sumiko Premier MMT. While refurbishing the tables, I've been educating myself on cartridges, which in turn led to hearing about Graham Slee phono stages.

My 2-channel setup:

Dual 1229 idler drive / Thorens TD 126 mk II
Odyssey Audio Kismet Mono amplifiers
Odyssey Audio Tempest preamp with MM/MC phono stage
Schiit Audio Modi 2 Uber DAC
TEAC 5-CD player

Looking forward to learning more about Graham Slee and vinyl playback in general.

Those refurbished Thorens tables sound like a great pick up! I think the general experience here is that adding a stand-alone phono stage from Graham Slee is an excellent upgrade from the onboard designs that come with pre-amps. Have fun on the loaner program!

Sorry Mick, they're only in the first stages of refurb. I painted the plinths, got new belts; from there will check alignment for each arm and then get them tested by an audio repairman. Then we'll have to see.

The phono stage on the Odyssey does a great job with black backgrounds; on the other hand I've only used it for low-demand MM so far.

But yes, looking forward to eventually checking out the Graham Slee stages and getting a feel for what they can do - once I get a couple of upgraded cartridges, that is. :)

I think you'll find a GS phono stage sounds great with just about any cartridge, even more affordable cartridges.
