Ok so I got a GA2C on loan which was fantastic as I wasn't satisfied with the phono amps I'd tried already, this gave me an opportunity to 'try before you buy'. The loan programme really is great.
I put the GA2C up against the Rega Fono MM mk2 and the Schiit Mani, fully running them all back to back for a week using my favourite LP's that I know very well, from the likes of Steely Dan, Earl Klugh, Dave Brubeck, Kraftwerk, Queen, Pink Floyd, etc. My turntable is a modified Rega Planar 1 with upgraded ceramic bearing, sub-platter, acrylic platter, Nagaoka MP110 cart, arm raised 6mm, etc. The only amp that gave me everything I was looking for was the GA2C! It was the most 'musical' of the 3 and had the most detailed sound, everything was solid, detailed and clear. From the lightest cymbal tap to the hardest drum hit - everything sounded real. It also had the best 3-dimensional sound stage with the most air between instruments, you can make out each individual instrument no problem. Overall I was very impressed with the Graham Slee Gram Amp 2 Communicator, best phono amp I have heard so far. I have since sold the Rega, returned the Schiit and purchased a GA2C! The GA2C is a good match for the RP1, no point in spending more than the cost of the turntable on a phono amp, the GA2C gets the most out of the turntable at an affordable price. I purchased one from Audio Affair, with their 10% off I got it for £157.50! I give it 5 stars! I'm looking forward to having a loan of a PSU1 soon to hear what improvements that makes, if a big enough difference I'll be purchasing one of them too!
