Haven't been to Crarnage or any Hifi show for a few years.
At the last one I attended most exhibitors were playing film - sorry 'movie' soundtracks -
at very high levels to maximise the effect of the bangs & crashes. Entertaining but nothing
much to do with music.
Best I remember was a quiet demo of a turntable system with Len Gregory's musicmaker
& linear tracking arm.

Well it is over 25 years since I visited any shows but I share a tip I used back in the 70s/80s.

I use to keep a couple of pieces of cotton wool in my ears and take them out if/when there was something good worth listening to.  It used to protect the ears and reduce fatigue during what was normally a long day including travelling.

I am far more sophisticated these days so would use some ear protectors rather than the cotton wool!

Very good idea.
When I think of the cranked up to 11 sound levels of some of the bands I saw when young
it's a miracle I don't have tinnitus.
