The ratio I'm using is 1:1.3:1.61 (7'6 ceiling height : 9'9 width : 12'1 length - sorry it's in olde English...). Reversing the order we see that 1.61 is "the golden ratio" x 1, and the width is roughly the square root of 1.61. Whether that has any bearing upon it is anyone's guess...

However, that doesn't give a very big room, but is suitable for me and the limitations of width and height I had.

If the room was very large would you expect the same issues to arise?   I.e. If the Albert hall was the inappropriate ratio I would have expected the ratio to be less relevant-would that be reasonable and then a lesser degree being less extreme would the problems be more of an issue with decreasing size?

You could be right. I must add I'm at the limit of my acoustics understanding.

What I'd like to know is can so called snake oil solutions improve things when there are room issues. I almost found myself going down that route in my previous failed attempt at a listening room.

Perhaps calling them snake oil is a tad unkind? We'll have to see. And I've started another topic - a kind of survey - in which we could discover a lot more from each other.

I've also invited every member we've ever had to take part, or will have by 5pm this evening when the newsletter goes out. I'm sure some will see it as an intrusion...
