I've been out of the loop for a couple of years, and while I'm embarrassed to ask, it's much more time efficient than searching.
I'm interested in purchasing the Assession, and believe I've found what is the current purchasing website. Since I'm in the U.S., I'm a bit confused about customs duties and such. I know the price is in the range of incurring a customs duty, whereas my earlier purchase of interconnects was not. How is the customs duty managed if I order directly through HiFi Systems Components? Is my customs figured in as part of shipping, or do I have to make other arrangements? Finally, which shipper is used? Thanks in advance, and sorry if I missed a obvious post elsewhere that explains all this.

Because all UK taxes are stripped out the export price is 20% less than the retail price indicated in the purchase panel. The correct export price is shown in the cart.
On arrival in the US, US customs duty and any local GST is levied on the purchase. This is collected from you at delivery by the shipper which is UPS, and goes into the HiFi System Components account handled by UPS, which they then pay over to the US government. By WTO rules and according to their tariff, the amount of customs duty is set as a maximum of 3.9% with a duty free percentage of 66.7%, which should mean you don't pay the full 3.9% of the order value. The order value is declared on the accompanying commercial invoice, and we are sometimes asked to under declare, but because it is so easy for customs officers to find the true price of goods online using nothing more than a cellphone, if we did that we'd be banned from exporting. |

I ordered a Reflex M from Graham in 2011. UPS needed to collect $23 in cash since that was all they handled. I'm not sure if that's still how they do it. I ordered a Solo ULDE headphone amp upgrade card and they didn't ask for payment of import duty. I think their system is spotty or it has to hit a certain value before they bother to collect.
