I am planing to assemble a 5.1 channel amplifier. I selected the famous TDA2030(http://www.kynix.com/uploadfiles/pdf9675/TDA2030AH.pdf)as the basic element and is simple to proceed. But I have a confusion, whether to use some other Class D amplifier for better quality. Please share your experience about these classes of amplifiers in the term of their output quality. I really don't care about the efficiency or the size. |

Hi Kaylee, I have used the TDA2030 in the past to power a guitar amp/monitor and then a pair for stereo use. It was about 30 years ago but the arrangement worked, albeit using a mains transformer in the PSU rather than a modern SMPS which would probably work as well.
Considering the sensitivity of modern speakers the TDA 2030's output should be enough to run home theatre but the dynamic range of digital soundtracks may mean the peaks are a lot louder than the amplifiers are designed for. That would cause some distortion. So you may find the practical issue for home theatre/cinema is power handling unless your processor or preamplifier includes some limitation on dynamic range and the standard bass management so low frequencies are diverted to subwoofer(s) rather than being a burden on your main speakers. |
