Im sure I heard somewhere that there may be a Linestage Pre in the future.
Can you tell us how that is coming along Graham? Will it be offered as a Green item? Or a kit maybe? |

Hi, I am also very interested in a ready-to-play "nothing/nowhere-digital" (semi-)active line-preamp, NO phonoamp, NO headphoneamp, with "hand-turned" volume.
No need for any remote controlled function for me.
I did search for preamps like that but never found one. Any suggestions?
If it sounds "GSP-standard" or better still, it may come with SMD's, OpAmps, transistors and alike and maybe a separate powersupply and the price max 1000 Euro's.
Probably nonsense I'm saying above, not enough customers? and...., but nevertheless.....
Is probably going to be a long wait, oh well....... Han

Cyreg,
You have a drink, or two, or three, anytime, anywhere!
Like you, I am also sick and tired of being offered everything but the kitchen sink, while being short changed for what I consder essential, in devices such as preamplifiers. I was so frustrated that eventually, I got a team together and we are working on just such a preamp or two. They should be ready by June or July, but with development work, you never really know the final date.
Phono stage optional as a stick-it-in-yourself board (MM or MC);
Tone controls optional (using calibrated vacuum relays for +3, +2, +1, 0, -1, -2, -3 dB boost or cut, i.e. used for small CORRECTIONS, not for colouring the sound, fully calibrated, totally reproducable)
Volume control NOT in the direct signal path;
Discrete design (uses ICs only in secondary funtions);
No capacitors, no inductors in the direct signal path (not even in the phono stage!);
Complete phase coherence, design goal is less than 1 degree phase shift 20...20.000 Hz;
etc.
The point being - go for a straight line pre, or one with tone controls, your choice. Have output voltage LED meters or not, as you please. Buy simplke today, enlarge and upgrade tomorrow if you wish. Add a true, pure class A headphone amp if you like, now or later. Finally be able to have exactly what you wish - by your choice. Tailor it to your needs.
Oh yes - the price is to be significantly less than 1.000 euro INCLUDING to your door UPS delivery.
So, if Graham hasn't come up with something better yet, and you're willing to wait ...

dvv, your suggested preampdesign doesn't sound like a simple one to me.
But I'm just basic electronics educated, no audiotech-specialist at all, nor want to be.
GSP products seem so simple, but probably very cleverly designed and finetuned by ear.
That's what I learned from other threads on other forums.
I developped a sort of soundwise confidence in what GSP produces and have two now.
So primarely I will wait and see what GSP will bring, but will follow your developments also.
I have an integrated Cyrus8vs/PSX right now. It's pretty good sounding but...........
Strangely (or maybe not) I discovered by accident that the fixed CD-input sounds different from all 5 other adjustable inputs (CD-input as REF). I don't use the CD-input right now!
Overdesigned maybe?? Kind regards Han

Cyreg,
It may not sound simple, and from a designer's point of view, it isn't, but in reality, it can be anything from truly simple, line-level preamp, to a professional quality instrument. How complex is supposed to be left up to the user to decide.
