I've just read that someone on a forum thinks the default Rega Elys 2 cartridge on the Rega Planar 3 tracks poorly.
What does that mean? |

Possibly that the VTF isn't set correctly.
Possibly the antiskate bias is set incorrectly. The Exact cartridges are designed to work on the RP turntables. Because of the 3 point headshell fixing an alignment protractor is unnecessary, as the alignment should automatically be correct. VTA should also be optimal, as the Exact cartridges are not very tall (because they're designed to fit the RP turntables). You need to have a decent stylus balance to get the VTF set optimally - ignore any markings or indications on the arm. Edited by Chris Firth - 20 Dec 2016 at 5:05pm |

If it's just a general definition of tracking ability you're asking for, it's the ability of the stylus
to follow the grooves accurately without generating distortion. I don't know about the Elys but a cartridge with poor tracking often has trouble with sibilant sounds sounding like 'th' not 's' & don't reproduce side ends well, especially loud music. |

Ah, I was just gonna ask how you can hear it in the sound when a cartridge tracks poorly, but no need for that now. I am not so technically minded. Thanks guys
