A lot of albums are artificially loudened, I've lost count of the times I have had to grab for the volume knob to avoid a painful level change - one of the joys of having some 300 CD changers.

Usually modern pop music, I think I have an old Metallica CD 'And justice for all' that's almost polite in comparison to Taylor Swift's latest. Go figure.

I still use Sigur Ros as my benchmark as to whether my ears can still hear the high notes, thankfully I keep the volume in check except when I'm in a mood and put on some Metal.

An interesting question would be whether older people, in my case 40+ should buy certain headphones that do have a higher treble, leave that to the experts.
