I would just be careful when changing the cable from stock. Make sure the cable you are using is well shielded. See our host's recent comments on cable construction. A good cable will have at least two layers of full shielding and the shield should be connected at both ends. If you use high output MM/MI carts, you really want to make sure the cable is fairly low capacitance also. My 1200 is a newer model and has RCA jacks at the back rather than cables soldered in. It is possible to modify an older 1200 with a jack plate and there are a few different companies than make them. Also something you want to be careful with.

My 3D printed RCA box turned up last week. I fitted it at the weekend, using OCC cables and WBT pure copper RCA sockets. The phono cable was made using a Neotech OCC coaxial cable, fitted with pure copper locking RCA plugs, again made by WBT.
To my ears there is a clear improvement in the sound stage and detail I am getting now. It is purely subjective, but I am happy with the result now.

Jon,
It is not easy taking a photo of it. Here is one with standard sockets that I have found on the internet. It is a push fit into the hole in the rubber cover. |
