An old thread I know, but thought I’d post my own DIY table. Based on a Rega Planar 2. The motor is mounted in the lower plinth (2 x 18mm ply) to keep vibrations away from the upper plinth (18mm ply) which houses bearing, platter and arm (an old Akito Mk1 I had knocking about).

The upper and lower plinths are separated by four Audio Serenity isolation pads.

Here’s the build so far. I stuck an evergreen AT95e on it to begin with, but just mounted a Nagaoka MP11.

I mounted the on/off switch on the underside of the lower plinth to keep the top plinth looking clean and minimalist. Got an Edwards Audio Little Belter as the old belt was a bit slack.

At the moment it’s sitting on a homemade isolation platform as I need to find a space for it.

Cost so far:
£60 for Rega Planar 2 plinth, with inner and outer platter, lid, motor.
£14 for new belt
£10 for isolation feet
£3.50 for Michel bearing oil
Ply was in the shed

A really enjoyable project and fairly straightforward. Next steps are to source some better quality / finished Baltic birch ply. Then perhaps one of the after market sub-platters to replace the plastic one and maybe a delrin platter.

Most importantly it sounds great. Nice quiet background. It’s fun to listen to especially with rock music and I imagine it will improve even more once I get it up on a proper table.

That looks great Tim. Satisfying and cost effective.

Cheers Jon. It’s useful for sticking second hand vinyl on before it goes through the cleaning process and then I can play it on my LP12.
