Macs have the highest public satisfaction/reliability rating of almost any product. In addition the customer service is second to none.

I'd pretty much echo your experience Phil. I still use win7 in Parallels as I need Excel (don't like the mac version) and I also have a backup win7 laptop. Until recently, I also found the pc software for SACD ripping / processing easier to use but the mac has caught up now on that score too.

I agree with Phils' comments, have been a Mac user for the past 8 years & rarely shut down the Macbook (this is my 2nd, currently running OSX without issue). It never seems to lock up and after opening the lid, everything starts pretty well instantly. Battery life is also very good

I run various Windows programmes via the VMware Fusion emulator if I need them

There is one other factor that I didn't mention. I haven't had a virus on my Mac for well over 15 years. I'm not saying they don't exist, and I do run virus protection software. This is mostly to stop me inadvertently sending on Windows viruses that come in the mail to friends who don't have a Mac.

The only problem that a Mac has is that it appears at first sight to be expensive when compared to some rubbish cheap Windows machines. However, when you look at the price of an equivalent machine (taking processor, speed, reliability and everything else into account) the prices are roughly equivalent. Plus Apple computers always come top of the 'Which' recommendations. As the advert says 'everything just works' on a Mac!

'You are, through your soul not your body, a human being.'

As a family we've been using Macs for 20+ years and do not run any virus protection software.

I ran Sophos for Mac for a while but found it slowed the machine down and I haven't bothered replacing it with anything else. The best free OSX virus checker is ClamX or something like that iirc
