It will be driven by a bog standard Denon DL-103R via  a pair of Lundahl LL191's.
Output will go to a Musical Fidelity A3 connected to Focal Chorus 836V.

Tips? Tricks?  What to expect?

Thanks!

Hi Karl

Just out of interest, shouldn't you have ordered the Reflex C as the Denon is a low output mc?Confused

Welcome to the owners club.
I suppose the Reflex M could be a more flexible choice, with the Lundahls MC can be used and without MM can be used. The option of upgrading cartridges is retained as is the option of the Elevator.
As always, it would be nice to hear your impressions.

My main tip would be to work on the impedance matching. With a step up transformer the turns ratio of primary to secondary is used to boost signal level and it also sets the load impedance* seen by the source i.e. your 103R.

I may be mistaken but I couldn't find a LL191 so I suspect you have one of these Lundahl production models:

LL1931 MC input. Amorphous core 1:8, 1:16.
LL1941 MC input. Amorphous core 1:16, 1:32.

The 103R's rated output of 0.25mV (or 250uV) would become 2mV (8x) or 4mV (16x) or even 8mV (32x), any of which could work with the Reflex M. I suspect 4mV would be best, i.e. 16x. Which is fortunate...

It gets more complicated because the load impedance* will affect the sound of the cartridge, I won't detail why here. Briefly you're looking for a load of more than 100 Ohms, and the best match may be on 16x gives a load of about 180 Ohms. That is 47k / 256 (= 16 squared).

I have used several Lundahl transformers including fitting inside ribbon microphones and DAC's think they are very good. When you've had the system running for a while please try the Elevator EXP which plays the same role as a SUT, without the coloration some SUT's add and with adjustable loading for the cartridge. That's what I would do if I went over to MC.

Happy listening.
Jon

Open mind and ears whilst owning GSP Genera, Accession M, Accession MC, Elevator EXP, Solo ULDE, Proprius amps, Cusat50 cables, Lautus digital cable, Spatia cables and links, and a Majestic DAC.
