Some day I'd like to try some of your cables, Graham. Right now I have some slightly upgraded cables from what generic RCA's, mine were like $20 instead of $5. I believe there can be something to it because I've heard the difference other components can make. I think part of the problem is knowing which cables will make a positive difference. I am sure there are some taking advantage out there.

Put me down as one who couldn’t tell the difference on phono interconnects. Will try speakers next.

As I noted, I have tried many different interconnects, but speakers make a huge difference. Again, not a pro, just a hobbyist. I have used 5 different speakers over last few years, and heard many before that. None are exactly the same and some are very different. After listening to several different speakers lately, I emphasize what sounds good to my ear with the music I like. I don't take measurements, or use subs. If I think it sounds good, I'm happy.
