I've had a 1042 and it had a really well balanced sound. When I got my Biotracer recently (also have a couple of p-mount Technics parallel trackers) I decided not to get a 1042 mainly because I'd done that and wanted a change. After some good results from a Pickering XV15-625E I landed on another NOS cartridge from Thakker in Germany - an SAE1000E. This is a high output moving coil so works fine with the Reflex M (and UL/650s too!). If you good a Google search on this you'll be hard put to find anything negative written about this. I liked it so much I also bought it's line-contact brother (SAE1000LT) as a backup. . . .

As far as interconnects go, why not borrow a Lautus or CuSat50 to try out?
