Previously I have been using a Goldring Elite MC cartridge on my PTP6 t/table in conjunction with a G.S. Elevator connected to my Quad 44 using a Quad MM input module. However, I've recently mounted an Audio Technica VM740ML cartridge onto the PTP6 feeding straight into the Quad MM input module, and I am wondering if it would be improved by utilising an Accession MM or Reflex M in conjunction with a Quad AUX input module? Would appreciate feedback from any forum members who have experience of my proposed set-up. Regards Mike Kelshaw

I use a cart very similar to the 740ML with a Reflex. However, I do use non-traditional loading and load the resistance at 36K. Not everyone would want to or needs to do that though. In your situation I would want to try both the Reflex and the Accession and decide what you think sounds best. The Accession does have some capacitance adjustment switches which may be helpful for users of AT 4 coil cartridges. |

'Patientot', Thank you for your reply.
Quite unexpectedly, an Accession MM was recently 'listed' in the 'classified's' on a forum that I regularly visit (PInk Fish Media), and which, after some hesitation, I purchased. Unfortunately, after I had initially connected it between my PTP6 & Quad 44, and before playing any music, I decided to install a new 'bearing collar' which had also arrived earlier in the week. Sadly, I then found that there wasn't sufficient clearance between the platter and collar, so I decided to remove the 'specialist' bearing that I had also recently installed, and re-install a slightly modified original bearing, which in turn, required a change of the 'thrust pad' thickness to reduce the clearance between the platter and 'idler wheel'. Making all these changes required the removal and re-installation of the platter several times, and due to a momentary lapse of concentration, I 'knocked' the Nima arm on which the A.T. VM 740 ML was mounted, which then meant that I had to spend even more time checking and re-setting it. The final outcome, is that so far, I have only managed to listen to one side of one LP (Mel Torme - A New Album), on which the last track of Side 2 (Bye Bye Blackbird), previously produced a great deal of 'sibilance', which I was hoping the 'Accession' might cure. However, before drawing any final conclusions, I intend to thoroughly recheck the 'accuracy' of the arm and cartridge installation. Regards Mike Kelshaw

Good Morning Ifor,
Trust this finds yourself and family healthy and happy. From looking at your 'post' it would appear that you may have acquired more G.S. 'kit' (?) As you can see I've been spending too much time 'fiddling' with my PTP6 and it's associated 'bit's', and although I have spent much time reading on L.H., I haven't posted anything in the 'completed projects' given that my PTP6 is still 'in progress', As I have no wish to bore the members of this forum, I shall refrain form describing the minutiae of the changes, but as I mentioned I have just changed back from a recently purchased 'PTP' bearing to an 'original' with new 'thrust' pads, and I've swapped the 'A.C.' Idler Wheel for one from 'Audiosilente'. All these changes including the latest A.T. cartridge means that sonically I haven't a clue whether there's any 'improvement' or not Take Care Mike K.

The Accession was my last GS purchase and that was quite a while ago now. My son now has my Reflex M. I'm very surprised by your swapping out the AC idler wheel. As you say, let's not bore others here.
