Hi Gents
My lock-down project was to build myself the DIY version of the NOVO headphone amp. I have enjoyed listening to wide sound-stage and clarity this extraordinary amp brings. One issue though - I hear a what i can only describe as a "flutter" noise on one channel when not playing music. The volume doesn't increase with the volume control, but can decrease if I extend the headphone lead to full length!. I have tried other headphones and plugging / unplugging interconnects - but without success. Any ideas please?

Thanks Kev. I would disconnect it from the PSU and use a soldering iron to reflow the various junctions on the circuit board i.e. just enough heat to melt them and left them cool. Graham or John may uhave more specific advice and a better solution.

Sounds like the lead is acting as an aerial. EM inductance?

Dry joint was my first thought hence the reflow.

My previous suggestion can't be correct otherwise both channels would be affected.

Thanks for the responses Gents. By re-soldering the junction John- do you mean have a go at all the components joints?
Thanks once again

If you have a jeweller's eye-glass inspect every soldered joint. Should any of the ceramic (and possibly the two small blue boxed) capacitors be "dry jointed" they won't do their job of providing stability - an unstable amp goes to RF interference - it oscillates like a radio receiver. If a stability capacitor were to be "left out" of a power amplifier that channel would be burnt to a crisp by now. |
