With supply channels constricted and overwhelmed, prices are going up up up in 2022 and I have heard of increases between 10% and 30% for finished product and probably more for raw materials so...I am thinking now is the time to put a deposit down for a new Rega P8 and a pair of Tannoy Turnberry GR to lock in current pricing and before they become even less affordable.

The 3 to 4 month wait for things to arrival actually works well for me as I can save my nickels and dimes in the meantime.

Here in Canada the new pricing hasn't been released as of yet from either company that I know of. Has anybody heard or seen what the 2022 prices are going to be? We're always behind the U.K. in a number of ways including getting information from our favorite makers.

Goodness we have an expensive hobby!

I don't have any information on pricing for what you wont. BUT I have heard the price of new vinyl records here in the UK is going up. I can see why people are streaming now a days or even downloading music.
You are right "VERY EXPENSIVE hobby"

How's your saving going or have you got you new Rega P8 and speakers. I'm saving up for a new turntable which hasn't been going well, I have had some unexpected bills to pay.

So an update is in order I guess...
A P8 is now at least $500 more than it was at the end of '21 depending on who you talk to. I've heard of a $1 000 + increase locally but took it with a large grain of salt. A couple of store sites in different provinces that I regularly visit for price comparisons have it listed for $4 500 now.

Mine arrived a couple of months ago but no one told me until I went in to put another deposit down a few weeks ago. Needless to say I promptly packed up my P2, traded it in and brought home the P8 a few days later.

It's been two weeks and I still haven't found a good way to describe the difference between the old tt and the new one so let's just say WOW. The bass is much more prominent and there is a cohesiveness to the music that was only hinted at before if that makes sense...

I was asked when I wanted the speakers when I was in the store last weekend as there is a waiting list but I'm likely fairly high up it by now. (an aside - it's pretty cool that they're made to order. In a way, they'll be made for me)
Truth be told I can't spring for them just yet so hopefully I can put them off to sometime in the fall. That might give me just enough time to get the necessary funds together...in the meantime the Eatons are doing a wonderful job at always with everything I throw at them.

Hi Guy, I’ve similarly and very recently upgraded from a P3 to a P8 and, as you say, it’s night and day difference. My speakers are far more modest than your current set up (Dynaudio Emit 30s), but the improvement in the bass is very noticeable - far tighter and far more realistic. Overall, everything sounds more spacious and yet precise.

Out of interest, which cart did you go with? I ended up going with a Dynavector 10x5MkII - I felt it offered good value for money against my budget.

Glad you are enjoying your upgrade - I’m delighted with my P8.

Hey Andy:

It's been a little while and I've started appreciating how much more cohesive the overall soundstage is with the P8.

Everything is tighter, there is no separation between instruments / vocals like with the P2, the music hits you (or washes over you depending on what you listen to), the bass floor has lifted, the table disappears, I find myself sitting back and closing my eyes more often than not...

I kept my Ortofon 2M Bronze as it has lots of life left and wanted to save some cash. Funny how it's still a bit bright but a bit more noticeable nowadays. It may have something to do with the nature of the 2M series and the Supernait's built in MM phono stage...I may paly with some alternatives to see if I can warm it up a bit...maybe an Accession MM?

I did read that Ortofon made the 2m cartages to sound more like the CD sound, but have not found out if this is true. I too find it on the bright side and did think of replacing it. I have had the need to replace the needle on mine (bronze) and stuck with what I know for the mean time. Overall I do like the sound of it.
