You a right about the models having a baron cantilever. The models with the aluminium cantilever like the AT-OC9XEN though have a much lower compliance. Please have a look into the technical data.

I am running my OC9XEN with a heavy tonarm GrooveMasterII 9'' into a Accession MC, into an integrated tube amp Line Magnetic LM-211ia into Loudspeakers Line Magnetic LM-755 Field Coil (full range speakers). This sounds exceptionally well.

Regards
Stephan

If you know the effective mass of the tonearm (incl. headshell and hardware) and you can make a 1 minute digital recording of a record of music, we can determine the approximate Western compliance very easily.

Thanks for your offer, but I haven't got the possibility to make a digital recoding.

Anyway using the AT-OSX9EN with my GrooveMaster II tonearm, for me personally its sufficient to rely on my ears.

Best Regards
Stephan

I don't think these are low compliance cartridges. It's easy to be confused by the Japanese 100hz specs. At any rate, HiFiNews/Miller Audio Research measured the SH model to be around 23 CU by Western standards. That's on the higher end of things as far as today's carts go. Not as high compliance as cartridges from the low-mass tonearm craze though.

Hello!

The top model XSL is a fantastic cartridge. If you do not want to spent that much money or need a cartridge with a lower compliance for heavier tonearms the much cheaper Model XEN is an option to consider.

I would like to recommend the Audio Technica AT-OC9XEN, having an aluminium cantilever and nude elipitical stylus. The cartridge has a lower compliance compared to the OC9-models upwards and works very well with heavy tonearms. Its a very balanced cartridge with a very nice bass and treble. I like it very much and consider it to be real bargain.

Regards Stephan

The reviewer mentions how critical SRA/VTA is with the XSL stylus - meaning a tonearm with good
height adjustment and a bit of patience in setting up is required for this version to get the best out of it.

The other stylus profiles in the range may be less fussy about setup.

I am due to replace my Hana SL soon and will now take a look at the AT OC9 versions.
