Thank you John for setting me up at new year. Since then I've been finding my way around this very friendly forum.

I neglected to buy the PSU1 when I bought my Revelation M (having also shelled out on my modded SL1200 and other things) but have just ordered one to right that. Looking forward to it arriving early next month, all being well. I collect (hoard?) 78s as well as LPs and the other vinyl formats, hence the choice of the RM. My CDs I've ripped to flac files, and tend to stream them from a local drive, and like many CD players these days I think, mine doesn't get a lot of exercise.

Kind regards
Graham

That's great Graham and thanks for joining us. I had a Revelation M and PSU1 for several years and enjoyed a lot of music so wish you happy listening.

Rather belated welcome; I'm not on line a lot so no instant replies from me.

As to your post, do you just collect 78's or do you play them? If the latter then; was the SL1200 modded to spin @ 78 or do you have another turntable for that task?

Thanks Jon and David.

I both collect and play, David. I had the SL1200 fitted out with the SME arm, a new bearing, an external power supply, and modded to play at 78 at the same time. Unfortunately, I don't have the room for a second turntable.

I collect 78s on the Topic label (issued from 1940 by the Workers Music Association - they tend to contain political material of the time, and are not noted for their musical content, but have interest). I also pick up jazz, some dance band, rock 'n roll, and pop. As to vinyl, more Topic (they went into what is broadly referred to as 'folk' in the 1950s), pop / rock, rhythm 'n blues etc.

I left it until my 60s to discover jazz, and have been enjoying some avante (if that's the correct term) like Mats Gustafsson (Fire!, Fire! Orchestra), Ben Hall /Mike Khoury, the guitar-led jazz of Hedvig Mollestad, or trad such as Chris Barber, Turk Murphy etc. I think my attraction to the atonal stuff comes from discovering, as a teen, Captain Beefheart. I still have the albums. Smile

Hello Graham

Looks like you are compiling a varied collection.

Regarding SL1200 who did you use to do the 78 conversion.?

It's just of interest at this point in time; but in the future I may have first shot at an old record collection that been in storage for many years and may have some 78's in it.

If so I would obviously need a 78 spinner.
