Hello, I notice that my Elevator EXP is buzzing. Raising the volume of the amplifier this hum comes out of the speakers, previously only with the Reflex M it did not happen.

Disconnect the turntable and set the Elevator EXP to 100 ohms load. If the buzz persists, please contact our service department (John C) by contact form, or on +44 1909 568739.
If the buzz stops, is there a "turntable earth wire?" Project instructions say, "An earthing wire may be connected to the screw terminal between the sockets if you encounter hum problems when using the record player." The other end of the stripped earthing wire should be gripped under the "TT GROUND" thumbscrew on the Elevator EXP rear. This makes the arm and the Elevator EXP chassis have the same "potential." Otherwise, changes in potential between them due to radiated noise will be superimposed on the signal (buzz or hum). The cable connecting the output of the turntable to the EXP must be electrically shielded. Each channel must be coaxial, which means the signal uses the centre core. The "return" uses the metal shield surrounding it. Some after-market cables declaring shielding sometimes mean mechanical shielding, not electrical shielding. The arm tube is made from carbon fibre. This plastic offers zero shielding to the few inches of cartridge connection wire inside it. Therefore, if the turntable is within a magnetic field created by some external device (DECT phone usually, gaming console, or many things not necessarily in the same room), the magnetic field can be induced into the cartridge wires. Either move the turntable out of the way or move the producer of the offending magnetic field. Please also check that the turntable's electronic motor speed control is not creating an offending magnetic field. With the turntable properly connected to the EXP (as above), remove power from the turntable. The Elevator EXP must be connected to the Reflex M by an electrically shielded interconnect (two coaxial cables either in one sleeve or separate). Do not connect the "TT GROUND" of one to the "TT GROUND" of the other. The output of the Reflex M must be connected to your amplifier using the same type of electrically shielded interconnect. The Elevator EXP increases sensitivity 13 times (22dB of gain) and so any noise source will sound louder. Due to its sensitivity, the Elevator EXP is unsuitable for use near to high power radio transmitters, where the transmitted signal is so strong as to cause breakthrough, either of the program or the carrier frequency, which can make the Elevator EXP unstable in operation. The following is a Google translation of the above into Italian.

Hello, I think I've almost solved the buzzing problem.
I have moved the cordless phone away from the turntable and the rozio has diminished a lot, but it still hasn't completely disappeared. Maybe one day I will buy some Graham Slee cables but in the meantime I use the Atlas equator integra mklll which do not seem too bad. Anyway thanks for the great improvement.

Hello, I was wondering who in the forum owns the Elevator EXP and with which cartridge? Thanks.

Hi Vincenzo,
I used the EXP with the Rega Apheta 2 for three years before switching over to the Accession MC. I enjoyed it much more than two other MC stages I tried. All the best, Mick.

Bob does, with many cartridges. Go to http://musicandvinyl.blogspot.com/ and enter "elevator" in the search box. The results are videos of records played with a number of MCs into an Elevator EXP.
