I would be most interested in your feedback.

The ULDE should be more suitable for lowZ headphones like the Sundara, but I'd like to know if you can hear hiss with them using the older UL. It's not a factor for me - my lowest impedance cans are 55 Ohm K240S and I hear no hiss at all using these with my UL.

However, a pair of lowZ planars might be on my horizon.

I thought I would burn it in, so when someone wants to borrow it, they hear the real sound straight away. I will switch back to my UL in a few weeks and see what I think.

Resurrecting this thread as I'm still curious as to whether you are able to recall any differences you might have noticed between the original UL and current DE?

Further to the hiss with lowZ cans, I was fortunate to snaffle a Fostex TH-X00 a while back, a truly incredible headphone on a few levels.

It measures a very low 25 Ohm and 94 dB/mW and yes, I can hear some hiss when plugging them in but seriously, it's a non-issue. I cannot emphasise this enough.

The moment even the quietest passage of music begins playing even a bat couldn't hear any hiss.

The ULDE has less hiss.

Thanks for that Kevin - any other impressions regarding sound quality differences?

This is what Graham has to say about the differences:

The need for ULDE over UL would only be evident for low impedance devices. UL sounded like the Proprius, to my ears, but with less power available.
We do not see things as they are. We see things as we are.
