The Technics headshell alignment tool does make the job easier. I have used it since 1980 when I bought my SL-1600 MKII. I have tried other alignment methods (protractors, mirrored templates, Vinyl Engine templates) but find the simplicity and accuracy of the Technics alignment tool set-up provides great sounding results.

I agree with the simple approach. If the alignment tool gets the nulls on the tracing path it will sound much better than some I have heard about. I have spent some time exploring the published options and measuring quite precisely and it does IMO come down to the precision of any alignment and knowing when it's good enough by trusting your ears! Which is really what Chris said and others agreed.

On the OP I think keep playing the records and in a cold room the suspension will warm/loosen up. Otherwise I think it's quite quick and don't stop the music.
