Interesting historical representation which does appear to have some basis of fact.  No prizes for Direct Drives/upper technics from the summary though the Regas do still appear a common mass market brand for many as witnessed on these pages.  Whilst I am sure the TT under test is very good or better, from my few contacts with MB found him rather opinionated.

Has anyone compared an Origin to a Rega?
I'd be curious if the Calypso or Resolution provide a lot more oomph over the P6 or P8 considering the differences in price.
I may have to see if the store that is 3 1/2 hours away could do an A/B comparison to get a better feel.

I sometimes wonder if being that opinionated is what drives someone to the limits of what they want to achieve? Single mindedness can be a handy ally when one wishes to break through the current day’s dogma.

I have dealt with Mark for some time now, having bought two OL 'tables and arms in recent years, and have always found him most helpful and knowledgeable. You may say he's opinionated but then any designer who strongly believes that what he is doing is the best way would also be accused of this, just ask Graham Wink
I believe that the OL 'tables and arms are among the best bargains on the market, although not the cheapest they stack up extremely well against much more expensive options

In a manner of speaking, yes.

I bought an original Rega Planar 2 in 1987 which was much modified in the 29 years I owned it. My first experience with OL was when I replaced the RB250 tonearm with a secondhand Silver Mark 3A (purchased from a forum member and advertised here).

The Rega was later replaced with a Calypso following a half day's demo at Southampton. Mark Baker was very helpful and gave me a tour of the production area; his son conducted the demo.

The Silver has since been upgraded. Based on my own experience I concur with Suggs and his comments regarding OL products.
