LP12 spring removal

I’ve always quite like it and I’ve not heard too many other turntables to be fair. It basically owes me nothing so I’ve applied a couple of upgrades.

Watching the platter rotate it definitely had a bit of a wobble so I checked out the plinth and it was a bit bent. I managed to get a corner braced fluted afro one of eBay and renovated it. Nice and flat and got rid of the wobble. While I was at it I bought a trampoline 2. Total job cost a shade under £300. I was quite pleased with the changes made to the sound but this could have been due to readjusting the desk when I rebuilt it.

The upgrade bug bit, I was really enjoying the changes wrought. I was looking at some YouTube stuff a saw the way the pre Cirkus bearing took an age for the spindle to settle into place. Mine just fell and need supporting. Checked it out with a dti and it was a bit knackered so splashed out on a Cirkus bearing kit. This made a huge difference, some lps with more complex arrangement became more listenable if that makes any sense.

So £800 invested and I’m thinking sub chassis next will it be 

Kore or 

Sole or 

Akula or

Stamford is the question.

It’s a lot of money but cheaper than a new deck which may initially please but I may fall out with over time. I’m never going to buy exotic MC cartridges so just need to bring the deck up to a complimentary level.

I blame Graham for the upgrade bug. I bought an Accession MM and everything started to sound fantastic and I got into reassessing the front end.

I’d also like to try a Groove Runner.
