Well I finally got around to swapping out the 2M Black.
As described in greater detail in the other thread in the MM/MC section. Anyways, if you remember I had a peculiar problem with 45s? It clipped really badly. The consensus was that it was the 2M Black and that was indeed correct! Having spoken to an LP12 expert, the 2M Black is a high compliance stylus unsuited to the high mass of the Ittok (or something like that), where as the K9/AT95 carts are medium compliance and designed with that arm in mind. Installed the rarer metal bodied K9 with Paratrace stylus and after a fair bit of fiddling I’m happy to report that it will play anything with no distortion at all! Yay! Anyone want to buy a very low hours 2M Black? |

Sorry to veer away from the classics... I'm enjoying my Hama SL and recommend it. 2BF it is going through the patented Accession MC. |

My first girlfriend had one of those Bush record players,it used two ecl83 triode pentode valves in push pull(pull pull?)I spent many hours trying to cure a small amount of distortion (that only I could hear!!)...

I fell out of love with my 2M Black, bit to sterile in my setup, switched to a Hanna SH and been much happier.

The 2M Black served me well for a year, as did the Bronze. I moved to the Apheta2 MC and I’ve really enjoyed it. When it eventually expires I’ll be thinking hard about MM or MC. Perhaps going back to the Black will mean cheaper changeover when it wears out. Certainly cheaper than replacing the Apheta2. Will I go for an even more exotic MC? No. It’ll be replacing the Apheta2, getting another 2M Black, or buying a Hana cartridge.
Cheers, Mick.

The producers of records in the 50s and 60s knew the limitations of available playback equipment at the time.. Most record players would have been a largish box with a single drive unit. I remember listening to music on players like this as a kid. |

Perhaps the 2M Black is just a little too truthful for some records or recordings.
As mentioned by someone earlier in the thread, Ortofon used to provide extra capacitance in the form of a clip in chip between the cartridge terminals. This "tamed" the top end a little if the interconnects or amp did not provide enough capacitance. It's easier to add a little more than remove it. Glad to learn you solved the problem. Happy Listening Ian
