I'm thinking of upgrading my integrated amp, an Arcam FMJ A19. I like the sound and it works well in my small listening room, a back bedroom which is about 3 x 4 sq metres. But I'm looking to move a step up the hifi ladder.
I've been considering integrated amplifiers from a couple of other manufacturers, the review of one particularly caught my eye when it said it also gave a full sound at lower volume levels when a lot of other amps need to be cranked up a bit to achieve that. These days I listen to mostly jazz, blues, some classical, musicality rather than impact - I've parked the heavy rock for now. And the volume control rarely goes above 30 / 40 (out of 100 I presume?). And anyway, we live in a terraced house with neighbours either side. The Majestic / Propius combo appeals, from what I've read, and I like the fact that Graham's amps are more compact. But from your experience, how do these amps perform when the volume's turned down a bit? I guess the answer is to try them and see, but before I do I'm curious to hear what users think. |

Volume turned fully down is about 7 o'clock on my Majestic and fully up would be 5 o’clock. The highest I’ve ever listened is with it at 9 o’clock. It’s plenty loud enough at that for my 4m x 5m sitting room. I love the Majestic / Proprius combination.
You should try them on home loan. |

A Majestic-Proprius combination sounds really incredible. The level of clarity and sonic resolution they put into my AKG K1000 headphones is truly outstanding. The system sounds the same regardless of listening volume. There is no loss of clarity and sonic resolution by turning the volume down low. All aspects of the music are really level with no audible emphasis on a particular part.
P.S This core system would be my primary personal choice for professional studio applications. Edited by Ash - 08 Jan 2018 at 9:39pm |

Hi Frank,
Don’t forget to consider your speakers in that question. How do they sound at low volumes compared to high volumes from your A19? I moved from Arcam to the Majestic-Proprius combo and I got more clarity and evenness, better soundstage, more separation in the usical threads, and more realistic textures and colours. Just more engagement all round. I find myself using the volume control between 9 and 11 o’clock in my 6m x 6m room, but I admit to the occasional silly session where 12 o’clock happened. Fun, but really way too loud for my space. At lower volumes I don’t lose the soundstage or texture at all, and it doesn’t shrink the size of images, either. Still open and vivid and clear. Mick. |

If you try a home loan, you will be convinced. No contest.
