And then you plug in your turntable and you're back to square one.

There are 10 kinds of people. Those who understand binary and those who don't.

I won't be doing this myself anytime soon. Besides I don't think anyone on this forum takes me seriously anymore. Just for buying Lautus cables, I'm probably thought of as a delusional storyteller so I'll leave the science to those that have the mathematics, experience and rationale to support repeatable results.

But shielding the room won't help with removing EMI that originates from within it. At least if you put all the Graham Slee or whatever boxes together in a bigger thick heavy duty metallic box with a thick metal lid that can be open or closed. You could do a listening test with the lid fully closed (everything enclosed) vs fully open (everything exposed). Would be interesting to see if a sonic difference could be heard or measured.

If you did the whole room you wouldn't be able to use your mobile phone. I've read of pubs doing this so that their clients are forced to engage with one another instead of playing with their phones.

Faraday cage type enclosures don't fully remove EMI; they only greatly attenuate it. Caging the whole room is pointless. Probably easier to put the metal boxes together in another metal box to further attenuate what little gets through the enclosures normally.

Have a look at this and then read the full article at http://www.compliance-club.com/archive/keitharmstrong/design_techniques4.html

An RCA jack has similarities to a waveguide. Therefore the circuitry inside must be very sensitive to electromagnetic disturbances.
