50 years after being banned under the Marine Offences Act by Harold Wilson's Labour government (1967), pirate radio broadcaster Radio Caroline has been granted an AM broadcasting license.

Maybe they'll get a more powerful transmitter now so we can all hear it? Wink

Ah, the days of my/our youth. Living in the Midlands then, we had a choice of Caroline North (nee Atlantic??) or South. South really became the major player with names we recognise even now, Johnnie Walker being my alltime favourite.
To think that the Beeb thought that Tony Blackburn was such a catch, they just didn't get it. With the structured playlists necessary to meet the BBC ethos of control, it was left to a few rebels such as John Peel, Tommy Vance and Mike Raven to bring fresh new non "pop" music to us.
I do listen to the current Caroline streams, be interesting to hear what the AM broadcasts are like, listenable or just a dose of nostalgia, nothing wrong with that I suppose.

The new transmitter is 1KW on 648KHz.

Just listen, if it sounds good to you, enjoy it.
