Whilst you enjoy your favourite music via my phono stages I just thought you'd like to know the severity of the tests each design undergoes (just in case you decide to play one of them...)

Just about anybody with a circuit simulator can build a phono stage, and valves are dead-easy - a bit like lego!

But getting them to perform with killer LPs is a different story...

They are also the very records you are likely to be thrown out of demo rooms at shows with:

Mike and the Mechanics - Living Years
Mike Oldfield - QE2
Genesis - Invisible Touch
Santana - Moonflower
Yes - Going For The One
Yes - Close To The Edge
Christopher Cross - Christopher Cross
Genesis - Lamb Lies Down On Broadway
Queen - Queen 1

Any more recommendations?

The second album?
Moribund The Burgermeister, off the first album, is a veritable sea of mud.

From memory Genesis' Abacab is difficult, but haven't played it for years...
I've heard some average sounding demos of 'In The Flesh' on Floyd's The Wall.

When the artists decide to do some discordant things like rock "madrigals" thinking they're harmonising when they aren't, often using echo or effects on multi-tracking, and in the case of Yes, getting Rick Wakeman to follow them up in scale with loads of fuzz/clipping applied - Jon Anderson's voice then competing for maximum volume. Eddie Offord did the best he could but the rest was up to some poor mastering engineer to try and de-ess and level-adjust so the poor old stylus on a record player had a chance of staying in the groove! By way of contrast, Emerson Lake and Palmer, although often being crazy, and also engineered by Eddie Offord, managed to fit their output to the groove without as much distortion.

Forgot another two albums: Patrick Moraz - I; and Yes - Relayer, where Patrick Moraz took the place of Wakeman.
