Would have been finished today but for one thing...

Convention usually has it that the dual primaries are coded such that when wired in series for 230V the wires across the mains are brown and blue. So guess what I did? Joined the other two colours: green and voilet. Except...

That's not how the actual transformer was wired. I could not understand why until I looked at its data sheet, by which time I'd committed the cardinal sin of uprating the fuse which burned out the transformer.

Never mind. More transformers and fuses on the way.

The real upset for me is I took lots of photos of the build and the ones showing the transformer wiring will now have to be taken again.

Conventions aren't what they used to be. Confused
Except that is for the old adage - If all else fails, Read the Instructions!!!!!!!!! LOL

Oh, and I should say that we've all done similar things, haven't we?

Well, in my defence I have to ask why make one 115V winding brown and blue, and the other 115V winding green and violet?

If it were for 115V mains such as the US and Canada, the colours are red and white!

And on the transformer in the power amp the colours are brown and violet for one 115V winding, and grey and blue for the other, such that wired in series violet and grey are connected, and brown and blue are connected to 230V - just like the mains wiring convention of the UK and the whole of Europe!!!

And being European, all the RS Components transformers are CE marked!

So I think it a bit odd that in this case blue and green are connected together leaving brown and violet for 230V connection.

And I must say I am very disappointed in RS. I wrote earlier in the 1970s Design Indulgence topic "So this is why I have been persevering with the transformers from RS Components - they still having the sense of duty and decency of Waring and Sebestyen from 1937. How much longer this will last is anyone's guess."

Didn't last long IMO.

I am glad that I am not alone is making assumptions that I regret later on, despite if well founded ones!

If these are RS torroids I think they are branded, maybe re-specd trafos from Telma Nuvotem. A word of warning. I struggled with these in my Power Amp because of their hum and buzz, nothing got rid of it. This could be an issue for an always on device.
I have mentioned this on another thread on this forum and I ended up getting one specially made and it was a huge improvement.
