Yes, that's the one.

Don't use the entrance by Gregg's but the the one to the left adjacent to Costa (the very coffee shop mentioned by Bob Harris on his country radio show a couple of weeks back!). When Vince is open - Wednesday to Saturday - he places a placard on the cobbles close to the entrance to the alley.

Not a shop as such, but I've just been to my 1st ever record fair. They have one in Orpington on the 1st Sunday of every month and it was really good. Not huge.. maybe 20 stalls, but there was a lot of really interesting stuff that I never see anywhere else. Some excellent bargains and some expensive rarities.
I've known it existed for years but always forgot to go. Didn't stay long as it only took me about 15min to blow £100 and there was too much temptation.

I got, amongst other things, a mint 1st pressing (allegedly) Wind & Wuthering for £5. This is certainly an early-ish Charisma pressing and will hopefully sound better than my ATKO version which sounds like it was recorded on a cassette outside while someone was playing the album indoors with the window open.Wink. Also got a mint original Sab Volume IV, and same for Meddle - both £15. Also got some 80's- tastic stuff from Cure, Psychedelic Furs & Simple Minds for around £7-8 a pop and all look pristine!

I was really after an early Floyd Animals, but the only one I could find was a mint 1st pressing for £60 and I wasn't gonna pay that.

All in all a success - I'll definitely go again.

Sainsburys. What! do I hear you say? I rarely go shopping but had to go to Sainsburys with my wife t'other day. I was amazed to see they had a small selection of 180 gram vinyl records for sale. I've not bought any because I already have the ones I like. Does this mean the vinyl revival is real? So, not a favourite record shop...but who knows in the future!

For a Fathers' Day present I was given a copy of Legends - The Best of Bob Marley & The Wailers. This was a Sainsbury's purchase. Good quality, mp3 download card - what's not to like? The issue would be how they dealt with faulty items. The stock varies from week to week, so they may not have a replacement copy in store.

They must be banking on impulse purchases since no "serious" collector would think "oh, I want xyz on vinyl - must go to Sainsburys" . . . Ermm

But I like the fact they do now have a bit of vinyl on offer . . .

Hmm, I'm a bit wary about this.

The music industry has been here before where the buying power of national & multinational chains drove many independents to the wall.

Not everyone will agree with me but there is value in the knowledge, enthusiasm and friendships forged by shopping in specialist stores. Often, prices can be lower than the mighty Amazon too....
Older than I once was, younger than I'll be

Last time that I was in the UK, just before Father's Day, Tesco was offering the same thing...one very neat and easily missable rack of very safe selling LP's clearly targeted as a "specialist" purchase for those with parents of a certain age.

Bet they all won't be doing it when current stocks are gone Wink
